After establishing Sugar Beet Seed Institute (SBSI) in 1953, Fars Sugar Beet Department (FSBD) founded as one of the four main stations for seed production. Since now FSBD activities are directed and supported by SBSI. The main activities of this department are as follows:
- Rhizomania and curly top diseases of sugar beet in Iran: Genetics, Breeding, Agronomy and Biotechnology.
- Sugar beet environmental stresses (salinity and drought) in Iran: Physiology, Genetics, Breeding, Agronomy and Biotechnology.
- Breeding and agronomic aspects of bolting in sugar beet.
- Quantity and Quality of sugar beet.
- Sugar beet major fungal diseases in Iran (Leaf diseases and root rots): Genetics, Breeding, Agronomy and Biotechnology.
- Investigation of main agronomical, physiological and ecological characteristics of
sugar beet.

Besides the research activities, the department has other activities such as:
- Cooperation with extension and education services of local sugar factories.
-  Controlling the factory tare houses division in order to measure the sugar content.
- Visiting the sugar beet fields and make necessary recommendations to farmers.

Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Department was established in 1992. Main activities of the Department are doing research projects in the fields of soil Conservation; water harvesting, watershed and aquifer management. Five Ph.D., 8 M.Sc., 1 B.Sc. and 3 technicians are working in this department currently. Moreover, the two active research stations providing suitable research environment in the mentioned field of investigations are:
1-The Kowsar floodwater spreading, aquifer management, training and extention station located in the Gareh Bygone plain, Fasa, I.R.Iran.
2-The Dorz-Sayeban floodwater spreading and artificial recharge of groundwater, station, Dorz-sayeban plain, Larestan, I.R.Iran.

So far, 24 research projects have been carried out; and 12 projects are ongoing currently in the department.

The Department of Animal Science as a branch of Animal Science Research Institute of Iran has 10 researchers and three technicians that supports animal science research in the Fars province.  Research activities in this department include animal breeding and reproduction, animal nutrition and rearing, bee keeping and milk hygiene. For doing projects, animal science researchers interact with scientists in Iran, industry leaders, animal husbandry executive section in Fars Jihade Agriculture, animal cooperatives and if needed other scientists around the world. All of the projects are necessary to increase the efficiency of the province's animal production in the future. This department has a laboratory and a research station. The laboratory is equipped with facilities to do experiments on feed analysis, serology, immunology, and so on. The research station that located at east of Shiraz, 5 km east of the city of Neyriz, has a sheep flock of Torkey-Ghashghaii breed.
