Elevation of the Kowsar station varies 1140 m above sea level. The station was known as an aquifer management station from 1982 in Iran. Thirteen floodwater spreading systems, covering an area of 2033 ha was designed and constructed during 1983-2003. This station was selected in January 1983 with the main objective of utilizing floodwater to stabilize the moving sand by sedimentation of the suspended load while recharging an empty aquifer with a potential volume of 100 million m3. More than 156 million m3 has added to the aquifer and pump through 130 wells for developing of agriculture in the area. In this research station has carried out 24 research project, 14 master science thesis and 4 Ph.D. theses, from foreign and international universities in different aspects of floodwater harvesting, recharge groundwater, and environmental. Six regional and international workshops have implemented from 1997 to 2006. More than 1000 students, managers and ministers have visited this station.</font></div></div></div>

<div><span style="font-family:Verdana"><font size=2>Fars province with about 36000 hectares under fig cultivation has the first position in fig production among the other provinces in Iran. Estahban district with 20000 hectares under fig cultivation is the center of fig cultivation in the Fars province as well as in Iran. Estahban is approximately located on 175 kilometers east of Shiraz. The altitude of Estahban is about 1760 meters above the sea level and the average rain fall is about 330 per year. The total area that is under orchard cultivation is 28575 hectares which has been raised under irrigated and rain fed condition. The area under rain fed condition is 62.5% of total The crops cultivated under rain fed conditions are fig, almond and grape. The most important rain fed tree in this district is fig (<i>Ficus carica</i> L.), which is cultivated in an area of 20000 hectares with about two million number productive trees. The total weight of dry fig production is about 15000000 -20000000 kg per year in Estahban. The fig trees are cultivated on the high slopes, hills and flat land. It really has a beautiful landscape so when travelers are passing or visiting Estahban for the first time, they are surprised and they think these are natural forests. Any kind of chemical fertilizer or pesticide is not used in fig orchard.</font></span></div>
